The Case for Dress Up Games

Most parents encourage their children to play dress up games when they are young. Princess dresses and cowboy hats are part of the toy chest, but what many children and parents fail to realize is that there is not an expiration date on playing dress up games. They don’t stop at kindergarten or PreK. You can continue playing dress up games well into adulthood – and you should.

Playing dress up games as an adult is easier than you think. You have two options. The first is to head to the mall on a quiet day. Amuse yourself gathering up large quantities of clothing you can work into different outfits. If these are items you can afford, even better. Head to the big dressing room with the best lighting and start pulling things together. Choose your favorite outfit and buy it. Do this often enough and you’ll have a closet full of great things to wear.

The other option for dress up games is to head online to the collection of dress up games. The dress up games online have you select a base and then pick clothing to go over the base. Finding fun outfits in a variety of styles online will give you the added knowledge to pick things that will look great together when you go and shop for yourself in personal dress up games.

Outgrowing Dress Up Games

There are certainly stages to a woman’s life, but I don’t think it’s actually possible to outgrow dress up games. Dress up games are one of the things that are with us from the early years until we die. Everyone loves to look at things that are new and visually interesting, and for most girls and women, this includes clothing.

In our earliest years, dress up games are princess dresses and super hero capes made from towels. Sheets become costumes and Mom’s closet is a treasure trove of interesting pieces. As you grow, the teen years can become a Mecca of shopping and current fashion. Even if you’re not dressing up in the trendiest clothing items around, you’re likely trying out a few new styles and walking around the mall at least sometimes with friends.

Adults go through phases when it comes to shopping. Sometimes you spend hours finding the perfect outfits for special occasions, and other times you simply aren’t interested in clothing or buying anything new for months thanks to other distractions. But over time, we always come back to the basics of fashion and dress up games. If nothing else, we realize that we can dress our own children and then their children and the cycle repeats.

Dress Up Games and Your Personal Challenge

If you like to challenge yourself, dress up games are absolutely the way to go. Playing dress up games is much like discovering fashion for the first time. The dress up games include an opportunity to find a doll base you enjoy working with and then pulling together outfits of all kinds for your doll to wear. There are a huge number of different dress up games you can try with your challenge.

A personal challenge should test your skills in new ways and always push you to do your best under any circumstances. In the case of dress up games, you’ll be working with new fashions and new dolls to create a comprehensive look. Consider the differences between creating a Goth dress up doll and a fairy princess doll.

They are both dress up games with a great deal of options when it comes to creativity and style. You can easily design a doll in less than ten minute and then go on to perfect her, create a story line for her and even submit her in any number of contests that are always ongoing.

The Essentials of Dress Up Games

Dress up games are a fun way to spend time with fashion. But dress up games don’t always have to be just for fun. You can use dress up games for any number of reasons, including preparing your closet for another year or school or work. Playing dress up games helps you whittle down the essentials of what you need for the coming year and what looks great on you.

To play dress up games, you’ll need two things – clothing and a large mirror. You can find these in a dressing room of a clothing store easily enough. Shop for new school clothing and you’ll see new styles and looks that you can try on and enjoy. But you don’t have to be at the store to shop and design looks for a coming year. At home, you can use your wardrobe essentials in new ways to pull together looks.

Look for black pants and neutrals. Combine new elements together to see how they blend. Use layering techniques to build visual interest in the designs you create. By the end of an afternoon digging through your closet, you should be able to come up with dozens of outfits that are fun to wear and feel new, even if they aren’t.

Dress Up Games and Unconventional Figures

There are few girls out there who have the same figure as a mannequin. Granted there seem to be plenty of them, but for every girl who seems to be the perfect size four, there are many more who fit into clothing in a very different way. If you’re one of the girls who loves dress up games but has an figure not found on a mannequin, don’t worry – there are dress up games for you, too.

Never worry about the size on the label. Different companies and manufacturers have a hard time being consistent about measurements. Start a shopping trip by trying on clothing in a few different sizes to see what fits the best. Clothing fits when it skims the body and doesn’t pull or dig in. If you have to suck into fasten the pants or the buttons are pulling, your clothing is too small.

The trick for most girls is to fit the biggest part of your body. Fit your tummy or your chest first and then take the clothing to an inexpensive tailor in your area. Have the clothing cut down to fit the rest of you and you’ll be able to wear your clothing comfortable and with more style than the girls who don’t have their clothes made custom for them.

Dress Up Games for the Theater

I love going to the theater. I think it’s wonderful to get dressed up and walk through the halls of the biggest theaters in a city. The hush of the hallways, the lushness of the carpet, the lights, the grandeur and the romance of it all appeal to me. The dress up games of the theater are my favorite part, however. There just aren’t that many opportunities to get dressed up and the theater provides a very nice one.

While you can play dress up games to go to the theater at any time, if you really want to have fun, plan on getting dress up to go to the theater in the evening. Attend a Saturday night show of a Broadway production and you’d best be dressed for the occasion. The crowd will be dressed in suits and gowns. Cocktail dresses or even long gowns will crowd the theater as people enjoy playing dress up games for such a fun event. Settle into your seat and enjoy the grandeur of the experience properly.

If you can, you should include hair and make up in your dress up games for the theater.

Fun with Dress Up Games

Personally, I find dress up games to be a lot of fun. I like creating new styles and watching my creativity in action is certainly fun as well. Playing dress up games can be fun in a number of ways.

I like to dig into my closet, or the closet of a friend who wears my size, and find all of the different things in there to play with. Mix and match styles. Try on different tops and bottoms. Layer things to your liking and pull on some accessories like large belts and funky jewelry. You’re looking for styles you might not normally consider wearing, but that are fun to try.

The other great way to play dress up games is on the computer. Hop online and find any of the thousands of dress up games online. Then select a doll base and clothing to put together a new look for the doll and possible a new look you might want to try the next time you go shopping. The more styles you create, the more fun you’ll have – especially if you share them with your friends.

Dress Up Games and Babysitting

I’ve discovered that babysitting is the perfect time for dress up games. Most often when you’re babysitting, you’re faced with hours of time without any planned activities. Filling those hours with fashion shows and dress up games is a great way to spend the time.

Start by adding a few important details to your babysitting backpack. Throw in some face glitter, face paints and hairspray. Bobby pins, junior lip gloss and nail polish will go over well, too. Show up ready for action with your backpack and you’ll have hours of fun.

Ask your young charge to head to her closet or playroom to pick out her favorite princess gown or outfit. She can dress any way she wants. Play princess with younger girls or rock stars with slightly older ones. Either way, once they have an outfit in mind, let her get dressed and then sit her down for a styling session.

Start with her hair. Get it up and sprayed in place. A curling iron might be required, but be extremely careful and only use it on older girls – never young ones who might wiggle. Then work on make up. A dusting of glitter and lip gloss is probably all you really need to give the little one a totally new look.
