‘Tis the Season for Dress Up Games

The weather is cooling off and it’s beyond time to pack away the summer wardrobe. Fall is here and the holidays are right around the corner. The coming of the cooler weather means that we’re in the best time of the year for dress up games.

Why?

Because dressing up over the holidays is more fun than any other time of the year. Sweaters and sweatshirts are warm and cozy. Long pants and boots are perfect for the season. Even getting dressed up for a night on the town is more fun when you get to combine tall boots with mini skirts and tights.

When you decide to show a bit of skin in the winter, such a hint of leg above the tall boots or a bit of shoulder peeking under a sweater, you make a much bigger impact than you do when you’re showing a great deal of skin in the summer. Showing just a bit of skin in a cooler weather dress up game is akin to romance and mystery, not steamy and sweaty fun.

Guy Dress Up Games

Dress up games aren’t just for girls these days. There are plenty of guy dress up games out there ranging from celebrities such as Zac Efron to more generic creations such as “hot guys dress up games.” These guy games aren’t just for the boys, however, it can be just as much fun to dress up a boy as it is a girl.

Why?

Because you have complete control over his wardrobe. You can dress up an imaginary character to use as the heartthrob in one of your stories or even just to pretend you know him in school. Maybe he’s getting dressed for a date with you! If you are beyond playing with your imagination, you can still create dressed up guys online to help with you real boyfriend.

Drag your boyfriend over and help him learn to dress. Show him how the dress up games can help him learn about his own unique style and how to mesh it with a more style appropriate style. He might think madras pants and a striped shirt look great, but you can help tone it down with some well planned solids and a bit of a fashion tutorial.

Goth Dress Up Games

It takes all types, and as Lance and Lacey proved on Dancing with the Stars a bit ago, Goth style can be amazingly sexy and fun. Not everyone appreciates the overtly romantic combinations of dark colors and pale skin, but those who appreciate the Goth styles will certainly appreciate Goth dress up games.

Goth dress up games are much like any other dress up game, with the exception of the clothing choices. Instead of pink princess gowns and mini skirts, you’re given the option of dark clothing focusing on red, black and purple with an emphasis on ruffles and romance rather than edgy and trendy.

To play Goth dress up games, you are able to pick clothing from a large selection and “dress” the doll base in a stylish creation all your own. You can start with skirts and add boots or heels along with fishnet hose, layers of skirts and jackets and plenty of accessories such as onyx jewelry, gloves and even a few funky hats.

While there aren’t many Goth dress up games online, there are enough to keep those with a darker, more romantic spirit more than satisfied.

Dress Up Games – Five Minute Costumes

When you decide to change costumes or go ahead with a costume at the last minute, you don’t have a lot of options. Of course, if you’re savvy, you can make a great costume out of things around the house just by getting creative – in five minutes of less.

Business Man – Ask your dad for a suit he doesn’t wear much. Roll up the pants and don the suit. It should be extremely oversized and the jacket will hang. Pull your hair back tightly and part it down the middle. Use gel to keep it in place firmly. Grab a briefcase and you’re ready to go as a junior sized executive.

Ghost – Find an old sheet and throw it over your head. Mark where your eyes should go with a marker, take the sheet off and cut out two equal ovals. Put the sheet back on, and you’re ready to go – just don’t try to do much with your arms.

Clown – Dig through the closets in your house to find oversized pants, a shirt that doesn’t match anything, brightly colored shoes – tennis shoes or other big flats, and then use face paints. Paint your face white and draw in a nose, cheeks, a mouth and eyebrows. A fun hat finishes off the look.

Classic Costumes for Dress Up Games

Why not return to the basics this Halloween? Halloween costumes that inspire the classics will never go out of style, and you can even wear the same costume year after year – that can’t be said for political figures or even some action heroes. If you’re struggling with ideas for a dress up game and costume this Halloween, use the following:
Witch
The classic witch has a long black robe, a black hat, freaky hair and a green face. Very Wicked Witch of the West.

Ghost
A white sheet never looked so good. Cut some eyes and then arrange your sheet so you can see. The ghost costumes shows up in movies all the time, but you just don’t see it on the streets nearly enough.

Pumpkin
A round, fluffy midsection created from batting or stuffing inside an orange suit can turn you into a full-fledged pumpkin. A cute orange and green hat tops off the outfit.

Clown
A few mismatched pieces of clothing and a red nose can make a clown costume – especially if you manage to find a great clown wig.

Make Your Own Halloween Costume

The easiest way to make your own Halloween costume is to buy a few inexpensive accessories and then use clothing you already have.

Angel
If you want to be an angel for Halloween, pull on a long silky bathrobe (over regular clothes, of course) and then pull on the wings and halo you bought. You can make a robe as well using an old white sheet. Fold it in half, cut out the rough outline of the shape, sew or glue it together and you’re in business! When you’re dresses as an angel, don’t forget the glitter on your face!

Cat
Becoming a black cat is simple. Invest in a black face pencil and a pair of black ears. A collar might make it rather authentic as well. Dig through your closet to find an old leotard or at the minimum a tight pair of black leggings and a black shirt. Pull on your ears, paint on a nose and whiskers and you’re set. Of course, if you can snag a cat tail to attached to the back of your outfit, you’ll be in even better luck.

Halloween Costume Ideas

One of the best dress up games of all time is right around the corner. Halloween is a terrific opportunity to try out different styles and designs as well as flex your creative muscle. This year, try something new for a costume. Consider:

Political Figures – Just think of how much fun you could have dressed as Barack Obama or Sarah Palin. I guess John McCain might be an amusing choice as well.

Movie Characters – Cheetah Girls, Bratz, Camp Rock, High School Musical and more are great places to get ideas.

Freaky Factors – Opt for the freak factor with something edgy and gross. A realistic mask or special effects on your face can make things look wickedly real and possibly freak out a friend or two.

Cartoon Characters – Don’t let the younger crowd monopolize the fun cartoon characters. Go for traditional princesses or animal friends, or opt for the less well known anime characters that you know and love.

Off the Wall – Finally, pick something this year that is totally unexpected and off the wall. These costumes take a lot of creativity, but when you land on something great like a purple pillow case turned into a raisin, you know you’re planning something terrific.

Older Kids Play Dress Up, Too

If you’ve been to the story store lately, you might have noticed that all of the dress up clothes are the perfect size for your four-year-old sister. While this is great for her, it’s a bit troublesome for you. Why? Because older kids like to play dress up, too. Just think of the fun you have every Halloween and you’ll understand why dress up games online and in real life as such a big hit.
Thrift Stores
For the older child seeking to play dress up games, thrift stores are a great find. In these stores you can buy entire costumes – even wedding dresses – for less than twenty dollars. Pull a whole dress up wardrobe together and take it home to wash. Then you can play dress up, too. Since these clothes are the real deal, you can probably get away with wearing them to school or to dances, too if you want.

Costume Shops
Another option for older girls and dress up games is to take advantage of costume shops. These shops often have sales after Halloween and you can stock up on all kinds of costumes to use throughout the year. Even if you just buy costumes during the fall, many are so inexpensive, you won’t have any trouble at all buying a few new ones each year to add to your collection.
