Dress for Success

There’s an old saying in business – you should dress for success. What that means is that you should dress the way you want to be perceived. If you want to be the boss, dress like the boss. If you want to the be the sloppy frazzled one, dress to suit. Of course, we’re not at work yet, but the same rules apply. You should always dress the way you want to appear to others.

I don’t just mean fashions. I mean you should dress the way you want others to think of you. Your grandmother is the best judge of this in the world. If she’s ever told you that so-and-so looks like a hood, or thug, or criminal – he might be the nicest guy in the world, but he’ll likely be thought of that way by a large portion of people in your grandmother’s generation at least.

Obviously your grandmother isn’t the best judge of style and current fashions and she might be prejudiced, but always remember not every fashion is right for you. Clothes you’d wear to a party of the beach are not suitable for school or church. Well, not usually – I guess it depends on your school or church.

Nobody likes to be judged, especially not by their appearance, but unfortunately, these things do happen. Dress the way you feel most comfortable, but always think about how you appear to others and how you can use that image to help yourself. The way you feel in your clothes and the choices you actually make in life are much more important than what strangers might think of you on the street.
