Playing Dress Up Games for 2009

In 2009, I firmly believe that every girl should make dress up games one of her New Years Resolutions. I’m not picky enough to state whether the games are online or off, but there isn’t a single girl who wouldn’t benefit from a few rounds of dress up games once a week.

Dress Up Games Keep Things Light
When you dig in your closet or help dress up a model on the computer screen, you can’t be taking life too seriously. You should be enjoying yourself and this is a good way to do it, so dress up yourself or a doll and lighten up!

Dress Up Games Keep Fashion Fun
Fashion should be fun, but sometimes it seems more like a lot of work as you try to look good. Keep it simple and fun by practicing the kinds of outfits you like online or with the clothes already hanging in your closet.

Dress Up Games Teach New Tricks
When you play dress up games, you stand to learn something new every time. You might learn how to pair up certain items or you might learn about a new combination that is hot in fashion magazines ands stores. Always look for the lessons you and your wardrobe can benefit from.

The Best Things About Dress Up Games

The best thing about holiday dress up games? Simple:

You get to stay inside while dressing up for outside. Dress up you character online with heavy winter clothes including boots, parkas, hats, muffs and all the other bulky clothing the winter weather requires without taking off your pajama pants or bunny slippers.

You can indulge you fashion sense without mall hassles. Every retail shop is beyond crowded, so if you’re into fashion you either have to deal with the crowds or you can play with fashion online. I think after one afternoon in the crowds, it’s easy to see why some online fashion would be preferable.

You can try new things without restrictions. If your grandmother is coming to Christmas dinner, you might have some restrictions on your wardrobe for that event at least. Don’t let it phase you – you can still make up plenty of crazy outfits online. Mix and match some of your favorite holiday looks together to see what works and hopefully to discover which don’t work before you try them out in real life.

Holiday Dress Up Games

I love the holidays and I especially love holiday dress up games.

Formal Dress Up Games
Easily my favorite, formal dress up games involve the kinds of gowns you get to wear to formal evenings at the theater and dances. I love the long gowns and sweeping trains. Paired up with gloves and a tiara, you simply can’t go wrong.

Costume Dress Up Games
You can’t beat Halloween for costumes, but Christmas comes close. You have the chance to dress up like an elf for the day if you want or maybe even pull on the full regalia of Santa or Mrs. Claus. Just once, I’d love to see someone show up at school dressed up like a reindeer.

Pajama Dress Up Games
Finally, I love Christmas morning when we all get to dress up in our pajamas and open gifts. Every girl should have at least one cute pair of pajamas, and this is the day to wear them. Since you will be in pictures, you should also take a moment to brush your hair and pull it into pigtails just to look that much cuter.

Dress Up Games – Need a Hat?

I swear my favorite accessory is the hat. Unfortunately, I don’t always get a chance to use my favorite accessory in dress up games simply because it’s not a great fit for most outfits. But when I can, I always include a fun hat to really jazz things up a bit.

The Cowboy Hat
A cowboy hat shouldn’t just be reserved for those who know how to ride horses. It’s a great beach hat and is nice with shorts and a swimsuit to keep the sun off your face and neck – guess those cowboys knew what they were doing.

The Stocking Cap
Knitted or of the fleece variety, the stocking cap is a warm way to keep your ears and head roasty-toasty this winter. There are an infinite number of cute styles to choose from with winter hats, but my favorites are ones with pom-poms and ear flaps, but that’s just me.

The Baseball Cap
We can’t all look good in every hat, but baseball caps sure do make girls look cute. Thread that ponytail through the back and you’re in business!

Dress Up Games – Winter Wardrobe

The best time for dress up games in the winter. During the summer you get to show more skin, but how different is one swimsuit from the next, really? In the winter you have so many more options – you can do a long skirt, a short skirt with tights, a pair of cords, a pair of jeans, overalls, and the list goes on.

When you start to dress someone in the winter, you get to really utilize layers. This helps to keep someone comfortable temperature-wise when they can add or remove a layer, and it helps to bring an outfit together.

Begin with a shell or long-sleeve t-shirt. Put a button down oxford shirt over the tee and then pull a sweater over the top of the oxford shirt. To dress up the look you can tuck the shirt into a pair of dress pants, or you can leave the tails out over a pair of cords or jeans. Either way looks great, especially paired with a nice pair of boots. Throw on a scarf and a winter hat and you’re ready for business – winter style.

Trying On Dress Up Games

I have friends who have never played dress up games online. In fact, I’m not convinced they’ve played them in real life either. I have decided to make it my personal mission to help these lost souls discover exactly how much fun dress up games can be. To do this, I shall take a three fold approach:

I shall make them dress up in costumes. I think wearing a costume is incredibly freeing. To make it easier, we’ll dress up in costumes at a special costume party-sleepover thing I’ll throw just for the occasion.

They shall sit down and dress up dolls. My giant collection of Barbie dolls should come in very handy while they learn critical skills about getting dolls dressed up in tiny clothing and even tinier shoes.

We shall play online dress up games together. I’ll bookmark a few of my favorite sites and invite them over for the afternoon. Then we can sit back, design outfits and compare the final results.

If this doesn’t get them into dress up games, I’m not sure what will. These are the very best weapons in my girly arsenal!

Paper Dolls – The Original Dress Up Game

I have a treasure in my house. No, it’s not gold or silver – it’s authentic paper dolls. You probably know all about dress up games online, but have you ever been able to sit down with the dolls that are actually made from paper with little paper outfits you can change? It’s possible you have, especially if you have older sisters or a mother who kept her paper dolls, but the real paper dolls are a lost art and are getting scarce.

In my collection, I have over thirty different books of dolls and their outfits. Many of the books are still intact meaning I never went through to cut out the dolls and their clothing. Instead, I somehow suspected that the dolls would be more than a toy someday and left them in mint condition.

Am I planning to sell the collection? Certainly not! I don’t collect many things, but this is a collection I’m rather proud of. I’ve learned a lot about fashion and the style of the day from the books and cut-outs and I like to think that others can learn just as much by looking through my collection someday.

Three Easy Ways to Dress Up For Christmas

Christmas morning might be casual, but the rest of the holiday season seems to be filled with opportunities to dress up. You need comfortable yet attractive looks for church services, concerts, family dinners and the obligatory visits from relatives. Looking your best is always fun, but dress up games can give you help when you need it the most.

Grab Some Black Pants
Black pants are the easiest way to dress up for the holidays. Black pants pair up with anything, and if you choose a pair that can be washed in the washing machine, you can wear them and wash them over and over again. Black pants are such a staple, they simply fade into the background and nobody will notice if you wear them constantly.

Pick Out Easy Tops
With your black pants on bottom, you’ll need some bright tops. Pick festive items, but be sure they are easy to wash and wear. Go with trendy tops that suit your casual black pants. With so many chances to dress up, you can switch out the tops at will and always look great.

Invest in Black Boots
Those awesome black pants will need some black boots. If you can stomach it, go with the pointy-toe boots as they are the most fashionable and dressed up of your footwear choices.

Dress Up Games at Christmas

Christmas is the best time for dress up games – especially if you have a sister or a close friend who likes to play along.

Matching Christmas Pajamas
Christmas morning is a time of fun and excitement. No other morning brings with it so much fun and frivolity while dress in your pajamas. You’ll also be the subject of many pictures, so be sure to look your best. Pull your hair back into a messy bun and don your oversized Christmas pajamas. The kind with a button down top and drawstring bottom are always the cutest in my book. If possible, get a pair for you and for your family members. The more people in matching Christmas ‘jammies, the more fun the morning is!

The Christmas Dress
Remember when you were young and you couldn’t wait to get dressed up for Christmas dinner? You had a special Christmas dress that likely came with tights and shiny new shoes, and this was your special moment. Don’t let that excitement pass you by now. Go out and find a great new Christmas dress to wear and if you want some, grab tights, too. You might not be in red velvet with ruffles and bows, but then again….you might be.

Dress Up Games Gone Bad

Have you every had a dress up game go bad? The situation is easy to picture – you and a friend are playing in your closet with all of your clothes and some that she’s brought over to share. You pull things together and think you look pretty decent when your friend starts to laugh.

You ask her what she thinks is so funny, and she responds with something clever about your abilities to accessorize or your style. While you might not think this is funny, having someone make fun of you when you’re trying to have a good time, especially a good friend is just one way to ruin a fun dress up game.

If this were to happen to you, you should control your temper, and then point out to your friend that she’s being rude. It’s naturally to feel hurt and defensive, but the only way to save the dress up game fun is to bridge the gap and make up. Remind her that the point of the game is to try new things and ask what she doesn’t like about your outfit.

Then tell her what you do like and work on finding an outfit together that you can both agree looks great.

Dress Up Games: Dress Like a Vampire

It’s Twilight time and the best way to see the movie is to dress the part. That means you need to play your own version of dress up games and don your Vampire look. Of course, Twilight vampires look a bit different than what you might see in old Transylvania movies.

Hair – Your hair can stay as it normally is, but be sure it is styled properly. The Cullens always looked well put together after all.

Skin – Use your concealer and light base to make your face as light as possible. Extremely fair skin is the order of the day.

Eyes – When a Twilight vampire was hungry, his eyes glowed bright red, but when sated with animal blood, the eyes turned amber or a golden color. Contacts would be the only way to get this look.

Makeup – your makeup should be done carefully to make yourself as beautiful and cold as possible. Vampires are beautiful to the point of perfection, so there shouldn’t be a hair out of place or a lipstick smudge in sight.

Three Reasons We Love Winter Dress Up Games

Ah, winter – the snow, the cold weather, the fabulous boots. Winter dress up games are especially fun, and we truly love them for a few different reasons.

Winter Fashion Involves So Many Clothing Items
In the winter, to get dressed, you have to wear many more layers and accessories than you do in the summer months. This means that you have a lot more stuff to pull together. Coordinating scarves, hats, bags, jewelry, layering pieces and funky shoes and bottoms challenges the mind and the creative genius.

Winter Dress Up Games Involve Boots
It’s no secret that girls love boots. Slouch boots, fleece boots, slipper boots, boots with shorts, boots with skirts, boots with skinny jeans – we love them all. Nothing has more boots to play with than dress up games, because unlike department stores, you can try on as many fabulous styles as you like.

Winter Hotness if Challenging
To be hot in the summer time, you must bare a bit of skin, throw on a cute pair of shorts and head out to the beach. To be hot in the winter, you must find other ways to flatter your figure, or that of an online dress up games doll, and that is much more fun. A good pair of jeans and a well-fitted sweater is a start, but would a long skirt be a better choice? There is only one way to find out!

Dress Up Games Will Get You Through

Any student will tell you that the worst times of the school year are the weeks before Christmas vacation and the weeks before summer. With Thanksgiving just around the corner and Christmas coming soon after, you would think that we’d be in the home stretch, but the opposite is true. These weeks drag on and on, and it takes a mighty power of distraction to make it tolerable.

Dress Up Games and Distraction
We love dress up games throughout the year, but they are especially fun during this horrible transition and wait. Rather than dwelling on how many days are left and what semester exams you still need to study for, it is far better to hop online and practice your fashion skills playing dress up games.

The most enjoyable part of dress up games is there are literally so many to choose from. You can play one type of dress up game on afternoon and another type immediately thereafter. There are enough games to give you something new every day without any overlap. And having something new to do online at least will make it possible to listen to your teachers drone on and on for a few more weeks at least.

Dress Up Games: Try Out New Looks

One of the best, most informative dress up games out there is to try out different looks – particularly in school. In any given school setting you’ll find a wide range of fashions. You have the goths, the emos, the punks, the preps, the jocks and so on. It’s also very likely that you’ve settled into a fashion role based on your friends and what feels most comfortable to you.

To really try out everything you can in high school, though, you should include different styles – literally. Build a small wardrobe for each of the major styles you want to try. You might warn your friends in advance about your experiment as they might think you are ditching them for a new crowd.

Gather your wardrobe together and actually dress fully in a style for a week. The first week might be goth with long sleeves, long dark skirts, ruffles and romance. The next week is punk with tight pants, heavy boots, and a bit of leather thrown in for good luck. Keep trying on styles until you find one that you really like. Although if you’re like most people willing to play with style, you’ll soon learn that you like elements of each and your look will become totally eclectic. Then it will be solely your own style that doesn’t need a label.

Dress Up Games: Dress Like a Super Star

The best kind of dress up game is the one that lasts the longest. The dress up game that helps you discover who you want to be and what style you want to have going forward. And the easiest way to describe your new style is that of a super star.

And just how does a superstar dress? That depends. There are some superstars who wear designer suits every day along with fabulous accessories. There are others who wear urban trendy gear, mostly athletic along with brand name athletic shoes. Still others opt for high fashion with boots, skirts, dresses and trousers in the hottest styles.

For you to dress like a super star, you need to find the look that you love best. You might look great in a suit, but that’s not the best way to dress every day for high school. You might love the way a track suit feels, but you can’t wear it to the office. Find the balance between what’s appropriate and what makes you feel great. Then you simply build a wardrobe over time using that style as a guideline.

Once you have your look and start building a full wardrobe, you’ll look and feel fabulous.

When You Don’t Like Dress Up Games Anymore

There might very well come a time in your young life that you don’t really like dress up games anymore. When this happens, you can rest assured that your situation isn’t unusual. It’s simply the reaction to overload in other parts of your life.

For example, if you used to love to come online and play dress up games for a bit before dinner is ready, you would still be doing that or another version of the dress up games if nothing had changed. But life is full of surprises and it’s very likely indeed that something has changed – perhaps you’ve starting dating a new boy or found a new group of friends.

Whatever the case, when your free time is compromised by others, it’s only natural to pull away from dress up games for a time. But when things get calmer, you can still find a minute to go online and see if the old flame can be rekindled. If so, terrific – you are likely a dress up game player forever. But if you sit down to play and still just aren’t interested in what dress up games have to offer, search around for another style of game to play such as cooking games or flash games. These are done differently than dress up games.

Reason #23 to Love Dress Up Games

Okay, I haven’t officially be keeping count, but if I were to guess, I figure I’ve listed at least twenty-two different reasons to love dress up games. So in the spirit of approximation, I’m now going to give you the twenty-third reason you should absolutely adore dress up games.

Dress Up Games Make You a Better Dresser

If you stop to look at the actual clothing that makes up the collections on dress up games, they are the same styles of clothing you’d find in your closet or local stores. So when you play dress up games, you can see how clothing should go together as well as the funky and outrageoud outfits you can make by pairing up different things and adding few accessories.

In real life, there is a direct translation from what you did on the computer to what you can do in real life. If, online, you were terrific at pulling together outfits and finding just the right accessory, you can do it in your personal life as well. Simply shop for the same basics used in the online games and then play dress up games, only this time use your own clothes and a bedroom mirror to get a full view.

The Best Things about Dress Up Games Dress up games need no defense, and they certainly aren’t hurtig for praise or fans. But there is a good reason

Dress up games need no defense, and they certainly aren’t hurting for praise or fans. But there is a good reason millions of people love to go online and play dress up games – in fact, one group might enjoy the dress up games for a very different reason than another group. The games are varied, the fans are a broad sampling of young society, and the reasons for heading online are just as mixed.

Dress up games allow fashion exploration. If you want to play with fashion and even become your own fashion designer some day, dress up games are the ideal way to practice and, of course, play with different styles as you create your own designs.

Dress up games teach us skills. Some people are born knowing how to dress. The rest of us have to work on it. Dress up games can teach us very critical skills in a fun and easy way.

Dress up games are different. There are thousands of games online, but there are very few games like dress up games. They are different, and when you’re ready to take a break from all the animation and sound effects, an intense round of dress up games is just the thing.

‘Tis the Season for Dress Up Games

The weather is cooling off and it’s beyond time to pack away the summer wardrobe. Fall is here and the holidays are right around the corner. The coming of the cooler weather means that we’re in the best time of the year for dress up games.

Why?

Because dressing up over the holidays is more fun than any other time of the year. Sweaters and sweatshirts are warm and cozy. Long pants and boots are perfect for the season. Even getting dressed up for a night on the town is more fun when you get to combine tall boots with mini skirts and tights.

When you decide to show a bit of skin in the winter, such a hint of leg above the tall boots or a bit of shoulder peeking under a sweater, you make a much bigger impact than you do when you’re showing a great deal of skin in the summer. Showing just a bit of skin in a cooler weather dress up game is akin to romance and mystery, not steamy and sweaty fun.

Guy Dress Up Games

Dress up games aren’t just for girls these days. There are plenty of guy dress up games out there ranging from celebrities such as Zac Efron to more generic creations such as “hot guys dress up games.” These guy games aren’t just for the boys, however, it can be just as much fun to dress up a boy as it is a girl.

Why?

Because you have complete control over his wardrobe. You can dress up an imaginary character to use as the heartthrob in one of your stories or even just to pretend you know him in school. Maybe he’s getting dressed for a date with you! If you are beyond playing with your imagination, you can still create dressed up guys online to help with you real boyfriend.

Drag your boyfriend over and help him learn to dress. Show him how the dress up games can help him learn about his own unique style and how to mesh it with a more style appropriate style. He might think madras pants and a striped shirt look great, but you can help tone it down with some well planned solids and a bit of a fashion tutorial.

Goth Dress Up Games

It takes all types, and as Lance and Lacey proved on Dancing with the Stars a bit ago, Goth style can be amazingly sexy and fun. Not everyone appreciates the overtly romantic combinations of dark colors and pale skin, but those who appreciate the Goth styles will certainly appreciate Goth dress up games.

Goth dress up games are much like any other dress up game, with the exception of the clothing choices. Instead of pink princess gowns and mini skirts, you’re given the option of dark clothing focusing on red, black and purple with an emphasis on ruffles and romance rather than edgy and trendy.

To play Goth dress up games, you are able to pick clothing from a large selection and “dress” the doll base in a stylish creation all your own. You can start with skirts and add boots or heels along with fishnet hose, layers of skirts and jackets and plenty of accessories such as onyx jewelry, gloves and even a few funky hats.

While there aren’t many Goth dress up games online, there are enough to keep those with a darker, more romantic spirit more than satisfied.

Dress Up Games – Five Minute Costumes

When you decide to change costumes or go ahead with a costume at the last minute, you don’t have a lot of options. Of course, if you’re savvy, you can make a great costume out of things around the house just by getting creative – in five minutes of less.

Business Man – Ask your dad for a suit he doesn’t wear much. Roll up the pants and don the suit. It should be extremely oversized and the jacket will hang. Pull your hair back tightly and part it down the middle. Use gel to keep it in place firmly. Grab a briefcase and you’re ready to go as a junior sized executive.

Ghost – Find an old sheet and throw it over your head. Mark where your eyes should go with a marker, take the sheet off and cut out two equal ovals. Put the sheet back on, and you’re ready to go – just don’t try to do much with your arms.

Clown – Dig through the closets in your house to find oversized pants, a shirt that doesn’t match anything, brightly colored shoes – tennis shoes or other big flats, and then use face paints. Paint your face white and draw in a nose, cheeks, a mouth and eyebrows. A fun hat finishes off the look.

Classic Costumes for Dress Up Games

Why not return to the basics this Halloween? Halloween costumes that inspire the classics will never go out of style, and you can even wear the same costume year after year – that can’t be said for political figures or even some action heroes. If you’re struggling with ideas for a dress up game and costume this Halloween, use the following:
Witch
The classic witch has a long black robe, a black hat, freaky hair and a green face. Very Wicked Witch of the West.

Ghost
A white sheet never looked so good. Cut some eyes and then arrange your sheet so you can see. The ghost costumes shows up in movies all the time, but you just don’t see it on the streets nearly enough.

Pumpkin
A round, fluffy midsection created from batting or stuffing inside an orange suit can turn you into a full-fledged pumpkin. A cute orange and green hat tops off the outfit.

Clown
A few mismatched pieces of clothing and a red nose can make a clown costume – especially if you manage to find a great clown wig.

Make Your Own Halloween Costume

The easiest way to make your own Halloween costume is to buy a few inexpensive accessories and then use clothing you already have.

Angel
If you want to be an angel for Halloween, pull on a long silky bathrobe (over regular clothes, of course) and then pull on the wings and halo you bought. You can make a robe as well using an old white sheet. Fold it in half, cut out the rough outline of the shape, sew or glue it together and you’re in business! When you’re dresses as an angel, don’t forget the glitter on your face!

Cat
Becoming a black cat is simple. Invest in a black face pencil and a pair of black ears. A collar might make it rather authentic as well. Dig through your closet to find an old leotard or at the minimum a tight pair of black leggings and a black shirt. Pull on your ears, paint on a nose and whiskers and you’re set. Of course, if you can snag a cat tail to attached to the back of your outfit, you’ll be in even better luck.

Halloween Costume Ideas

One of the best dress up games of all time is right around the corner. Halloween is a terrific opportunity to try out different styles and designs as well as flex your creative muscle. This year, try something new for a costume. Consider:

Political Figures – Just think of how much fun you could have dressed as Barack Obama or Sarah Palin. I guess John McCain might be an amusing choice as well.

Movie Characters – Cheetah Girls, Bratz, Camp Rock, High School Musical and more are great places to get ideas.

Freaky Factors – Opt for the freak factor with something edgy and gross. A realistic mask or special effects on your face can make things look wickedly real and possibly freak out a friend or two.

Cartoon Characters – Don’t let the younger crowd monopolize the fun cartoon characters. Go for traditional princesses or animal friends, or opt for the less well known anime characters that you know and love.

Off the Wall – Finally, pick something this year that is totally unexpected and off the wall. These costumes take a lot of creativity, but when you land on something great like a purple pillow case turned into a raisin, you know you’re planning something terrific.

Older Kids Play Dress Up, Too

If you’ve been to the story store lately, you might have noticed that all of the dress up clothes are the perfect size for your four-year-old sister. While this is great for her, it’s a bit troublesome for you. Why? Because older kids like to play dress up, too. Just think of the fun you have every Halloween and you’ll understand why dress up games online and in real life as such a big hit.
Thrift Stores
For the older child seeking to play dress up games, thrift stores are a great find. In these stores you can buy entire costumes – even wedding dresses – for less than twenty dollars. Pull a whole dress up wardrobe together and take it home to wash. Then you can play dress up, too. Since these clothes are the real deal, you can probably get away with wearing them to school or to dances, too if you want.

Costume Shops
Another option for older girls and dress up games is to take advantage of costume shops. These shops often have sales after Halloween and you can stock up on all kinds of costumes to use throughout the year. Even if you just buy costumes during the fall, many are so inexpensive, you won’t have any trouble at all buying a few new ones each year to add to your collection.

Top Dress Up Games

If you’re always looking for new dress up games to play, it’s likely you’ve already discovered how much fun the top dress up games can be. But if you’re still searching for what’ hot in dress up games, there are always a few good games you can count on:

Celebrity Dress Up Games
If you love dress up games, it’s likely you also love celebrities. Playing dress up games with celebrities as your base is twice as much fun as the standard variety. For one, you get to see all of your favorite fashions for that particular individual. For two, you get to pick and choose what she wears and when.

Rock and Roll Dress Up Games
Nobody has wilder clothing than rock stars. Many have even opened their own clothing lines to let others in on their rock style secrets. Playing with rock and roll dress up games online lets you see the stars you listen to while playing around with punk or rockabilly style.

Fantasy Dress Up Games
You’ve likely played dress up games where you get to put clothes on a doll that could be you. But have you had the chance to stretch your imagination enough to play fantasy dress up games? You can dress up mermaids, fairies and pixies just as easily as you can Barbie and Bratz dolls.

Three Types of Dress Up Games

There are three major types of dress up games available, although you might only be familiar with two.

Online dress up games. The most popular dress up game for those who are able to hop on and navigate the web, online dress up games let you play hundreds of different characters in a variety of fashions. You choose a game, dress up a doll, and send her off to your friends. It’s a very fashionable way to play these days.

Dress up games with dolls. Of course, you can also play dress up game with your favorite dolls – Bratz, Barbie and Polly Pocket. To do this, you simply pull out your box of dolls and start assembling outfits from the tiny wardrobe you already own. Dress up your doll and then take her for a ride in your plastic Hummer or Beetle. Good times!

Paper doll dress up games. If you ask your mother, she might remember playing with paper dolls when she was growing up. These dolls were found in books and you had to carefully cut out the doll bases and then the clothing for each. You dressed the dolls by folding tabs around the doll base to hold items in place. While some paper dolls had the latest fashions, others were period pieces or famous individuals. You could actually learn a lot from paper dolls.

Dress Up Games Never Get Old

There are some games that start to drag after awhile. You realize that level forty might be forty levels higher than you really ever needed to go in a particular character or that making it to level fifty is probably not worth the effort. While this is certainly true for some game, dress up games never grow old.

Long Lasting Dress Up Games
If you take a look back in time, you’ll see that dress up games have been popular for the last fifty or sixty years. In fact, if you keep looking back and squint, you’ll find that paper dolls were popular even hundreds of years ago. Why do the dress up games keep coming back and never die?

Because they are so much fun, of course!

Dress up games are built the same way no matter what form they take. You might play with paper dolls, online dress up games or your Bratz or Barbie games, but they are all the same in principle. You grab some of the fashions you like and use them to dress a doll. Then you have a creation you can use for any purpose you desire. When you get tired of one, simply create another and you’re off again.

Dress Up Games: Going Formal

On a rainy afternoon, there is no better way to kill time in a fun way than to enjoy dress up games. Grab a friend and a camera and head to the mall. Pick a major department store that sells formals for teens for your game. You want to use a department store simply because it’s less likely you’ll run into a confused sales clerk when you try on a bunch of dresses without ever buying one.

Once you pick your store, head through the formals with your friend picking out your favorites. Pick out one or two that you really think are horrible as well since that makes the games more fun. One by one, try on the formals. When both of you are dressed, critique the outfits as if you were planning to buy one for a major dance or event. Then snap a picture.

At the end of the day, take your camera home and download the pics. You can then print some out and make a collage of your special day with your friend. A photo collage of formals is also a fun way to finish up a day of fun and rather naughty dress up games.

Dress Up Games: The Dress Up Box

Growing up, I enjoyed dress up games in a very special way. My sisters and I shared a dress up box full of clothing that had been collected over the years by our mother. Inside the box were old formals, various dresses, shoes, purses and even a terrific old hat. Any time we put on the clothes from a few decades ago, we were reminded of how much fashion changes over the years. We certainly wouldn’t’ wear those clothes in real life – and they were only ten or fifteen years old and still completely outdated.

In a similar fashion, online dress up game create a dress up box in much the same way. In the vast majority of cases, designers don’t update the original models of the games. Instead they create new ones to reflect the more current styles. This means that over the years older games get left behind, but are still very visible on gaming websites and such.

Someday you’ll be online playing the latest versions of dress up games and stumble upon a link to an older version of the same game. You’ll marvel at the clothing styles the dolls are wearing and then wonder why in the world you ever wore that – it’s just the nature of fashion.

What’s New with Dress Up Games

In the world of dress up games there is always something new. It might be a new doll base or a new line of clothing, but when you decide to play a dress up game, you can certainly go back to the one you usually use, or you can play a dress up game that you’ve never seen before – simply by doing a brief search.

Dress up games are updated constantly. New versions of games are being updated and as games are created, they are brought online almost instantly. Thanks to the rapid creation of these dolls and games, you can play a dress up game with red carpet fashion within a day or two of the actual red carpet events.

Likewise, dress up games seek out the most popular stars and musicians today and include those individuals and groups in the already huge collection of dress up games. While it’s unlikely that you would find something totally unheard of, everything is new once, so always be on the lookout for new versions of your favorite games and stay aware – there might actually be the next big thing coming soon, and you’ll be the first to know about it.

Sisters – Your Best Tool for Dress Up Games

Happen to love dress up games but always searching for a new way to play? Why not use the best tool you have available? Your sister!

Sisters are built in playmates and if you’re the older sister, it’s pretty easy to coerce your younger sister into playing whatever game you want – she really just wants to play with you, so she’s flexible. Hopefully she’s the fashion type or at least a good sport so you can play dress up games in your house, not just on the computer.

To play a dress up game in your home, you work your fashion magic in almost exactly the same way. Pick out a selection of clothing and then decide what looks good together and what outfits are better left alone. Using your sister as your mannequin, you can have her model different looks so you can see how two or three pieces would work together without trying to strain and see your back half in the mirror.

If you’re an especially nice older sister, you might even allow you younger sister a chance to use your makeup so that her dress up experience is entirely complete.

Dress Up Game Communities

When you play dress up games, there is much more to the game than simply pulling clothing items together for a doll. Many dress up games are part of a huge network of games and activities. These are dress up game communities.

Within the communities, you can find any number of activities, games, social aspects and more. Your favorite dress up game community might include:

Dress Up Games – This is the obvious one, but the larger communities has plenty of games that fit into dozens or even hundreds of categories.

Dolls – The product of the dress up game is the dolls created. Some sites have dolls created by professional graphic artists you can use as avatars or just for fun.

Coloring – Coloring is very similar to doll making, so don’t be surprised to see the two offered in the same area.

Forums – Want to talk about your dress up game adventures and passions? The forums on these communities are a great place to do so. You can talk about plenty of other things, too.

Profiles – Much like MySpace, larger communities offer you the chance to create a profile and chat within it with other doll lovers. Of course you’ll use a doll creation as your avatar.

Dress Up Games: Cleaning Out Your Closet

The best way to begin any dress up game is with what amounts to a clean slate. This means that you can’t really enjoy your clothing unless you can see it. So it’s probably time to clean out that cluttered closet!

When you go to clean out a closet, you should follow a set of rules that will help you purge the old stuff you don’t wear or need any more and make room for new items that will help to expand your wardrobe in the future. Besides, you can’t buy new things until you have room to store them!

When you go to clean out your closet, you should:

  • Make a pile of clothing that is stained, torn, or beyond use. This is a pile to be thrown away since clothing that is covered with paint or grass stains isn’t much use to anyone else.
  • Make a pile of clothing that is still perfectly good, but you’ve outgrown. If your pants are too short and the shirt is too tight, throw it in the pile to give away to charity or sell at a garage sale.
  • Make a pile of clothing you just don’t like anymore. If you don’t wear it, and haven’t worn it in a year, get rid of it. Someone else will probably love it at a consignment shop or garage sale.

Why Moms and Dads Love Dress Up Games

It’s a total drag at times, but loving a game your parents love too isn’t’ always a bad thing. In most cases it might mean you have boring taste if you happen to love the same thing as your parents, but in the case of dress up games, the similar passion is on a totally different scale.

You love dress up games because they are fun to play and can entertain you for hours. You parents love them for a totally different reason.

Dress up games keep you safe. When you’re playing dress up games, you’re not hanging our on social websites getting attacked by predators. Most dress up games are on safe sites that don’t require too much information from you or have any risk.

Dress up games are clean. Unlike some of the other girls online, the girls used in dress up games always show up wearing their underpants. The bases might be scantily clad, but they are clad – this is an improvement over many major stars these days.

Dress up games are fun. Hey, it’s okay – your parents actually like to watch you have fun, you know.

Gymnast Dress Up Games

The Olympics are almost over, but the games can go on forever if you play gymnast dress up games. Of course there aren’t many online dress up games designed with the Olympic athletes, but that’s an easy hurdle to overcome. You only need pictures of the girls (or boys, if you prefer) and a basic ability to draw.

Print out a picture of your favorite gymnast, or cut out one from a magazine. Then use a sheet of white typing paper or real tracing paper on top of the cut out. You can trace outfits on the white paper that you can cut out for your gymnast to wear. Since so many pictures of the gymnasts are in leotards, it makes it easy to design new clothing options that can be worn right on top of the original one.

When you start creating outfits, you’ll want to show all the warm-ups and leotards the girls wore during the competition. You’ll also want to pull together some clothes for when the girls sit through other competitions that their friends and colleagues are competing in. Finally, the night-life in the Olympic village is lively and fun, so you’ll want to draw your gymnast some evening looks that she can wear when she’s out celebrating that silver medal.

Three Ways to Create Your Own Dress Up Games

What can you do when the internet is down or your brother won’t relinquish his seat for you to play your favorite online dress up games? If you can’t get to your games online, you’ll simply have to create your own dress up games. You have a few options on how to do this:

1. Cut out models from magazines and use the cut-outs as paper dolls. You can play with them as it, or you can use each one as a model for more clothing you create yourself. If you flip through a catalog for a certain store looking for models, you’ll find the same ones appear over and over again. Cut out the same girl in various outfits to use in your dress up game.

2. Ask your mother if she has any original paper dolls from before things like this moved online. If she does, you might get hooked on how interesting the old fashioned paper dolls can be.

3. If you’re an artist, spend the morning drawing a doll base in black ink on white paper. Cut her out and then use white paper and a pencil to sketch new outfits for her by tracing her shape underneath. You might just find terrific satisfaction is designing the whole game yourself – not just playing someone else’s version of it.

Dress Up Rock Stars

You’ve dress up models and you’ve dressed up dolls. You’ve probably had a chance to dress up celebrities, but have you ever dressed up rock stars? Those with any knowledge of the fashion world know that celebrities might have a bit to do with style and setting fashion trends, but the real fashion motivators are rock stars and other song artists.

Don’t believe me? Think about Madonna back in the eighties and nineties. Nobody dressed like a school girl after Brittany arrived on the scene, right? And how about Gwen Stefani? Enough said.
When you’re ready to take on a serious fashion experience in your dress up games, skip over the basics and head straight to the most serious versions of the games yet – the rock star dress up games. You’ll be able to help your favorite singers get their look together, or create new outfits for the bands in your music world.

Pretty soon you might even find yourself starting to look a little less Fashion Model and a lot more Rock Star in your own wardrobe.

Little Sister Dress Up

There is nobody more perfect to play dress up games with than your little sister. She’s most likely dying for your attention and she makes the perfect model for trying out your fashion and makeup skills.

Start by taking your sister online and show her all of the dress up games on the internet and then explain that you want to play dress up games just like that, but at home. Let her go through your closet and pick out things she likes. She might pick out your favorite shirt or you formal gown, and that’s okay. There is no harm in letting her play with them- after all, you’re supervising.

Once you have a few pieces to start with, work through the closet to find some more items to supplement the ones she’s chosen. Think of it as a fashion lesson with you as the teacher. Get her dressed and then head over to the make up chair.

Even if she’s not allowed to wear make up most of the time, this isn’t a normal occasion. Do her face in a not-so-subtle way and make her glamorous. You can eve do her hair as well to really doll her up. Then, when your creation is complete, let her admire herself and be proud of what you’ve accomplished.

Dress Up Game: Create the Runway

The most powerful part of a dress up game is the runway. Afterall, what is better than dressing up? Showing it off! To play the perfect dress up game at home, you need to find some outfits to try on and something to strut your stuff on. It might also be fun to have a camera or video camera to record the fun.

The best runways are creative and fun. If you’re new at this, you might just run to the store and look for masking tape in a really run color like pink or purple. Head home and then pick the location for the runway. Use the tape to mark off the section of the floor where you’ll be walking.

Make the runway as long or short as you want, although you might be limited by the amount of space in your room or living room. If you want to get more elaborate, you can pull a fan out of your bedroom and set it on the floor to help blow air on you while you walk. This will create that fabulous breezy effect that runways have. A few lamps and maybe a curtain can complete the stage and runway.

Of course your final step would be to turn on your favorite tunes and then get started prancing down the runway in time to you favorite music modeling your most stylish creations.

Three Reasons Why Dress Up Games Are Fashion Essentials

If you like fashion and you like to play online, you already know how terrific dress up games are for the fashion minded. If you don’t have much experience with dress up games, however, it’s still easy to see why they are absolute fashion essentials.

Dress up games use the latest styles. Look for the most trendy and fashionable items when you go to dress up your doll creations. Some dress up games even use the gowns from red carpet events to let you dress up celebrity dolls.

Dress up games let you practice your style. Sometimes you just want to play around with your look without spending hours in a fitting room or trying to find the money to buy things only to realize they don’t look right. Playing around with fashion online can help eliminate these problems.

Dress up games can teach you to accessorize. The hardest skill many have to learn is how to use accessories correctly. Anyone can pick out two clothing items to wear, but adding the right four accessories to that outfit is much trickier. Playing dress up online can certainly give you the practice you need.

Make Your Own Tiara

The best part of dress up games is decking yourself out like a princess or fairy and then throwing on your absolute best accessory – the tiara. Of course, if you’ve looked recently, a tiara is rather expensive to have as an occasional dress up item. You could wait around until Halloween to snatch one up, but when you want a tiara now, your best option is to simply make your own.

Start by heading to hardware store. You want some very thin, flexible wire such as copper – thin enough to bend easily, but strong enough to stand up to some rough play. Talk to a sales person, too about what tool you need to cut your wire and the best way to smooth down the ends – you might need a lighter to melt them a bit. If you do use fire, of course, get a parent or grown-up to help.

On your way home, swing by the craft store. You’ll need some hair combs or bobby pins, which the craft store likely sells. You’ll also need a can of spray paint (again get a parent’s help) in a gold, silver or platinum metallic. Finally, you’ll need really good glue and plenty of sparkle – glitter, gems and jewels.

Take it all home and bend the wire into a fantastic tiara shape befitting your noble role. Then smooth down the cut ends and spray the tiara with the metallic paint. Wait for it to dry before using the glue to affix all your glitter and gems. Finally, glue the finished tiara to the combs or bobby pins and your look is complete!

Five Reasons to Love Dress Up Games

Dress up games are easy to love. What could be better than sitting around on the computer playing with fashion for hours on end? And the best part of all - most dress up games are absolutely free. You can’t say that for your current fashionable wardrobe.

1. Dress up games are fun forever. Some games you can only play for a few minutes before you get a little bit bored and are ready to take on something new. Dress up games aren’t like that. There are so many variations, you can play for hours.

2. Dress up games test your skills. It’s fun to test your fashion skills, and dress up games are one of the best ways to do it.

Dress Up Celebrities

It’s fun to dress up dolls, but it’s even more fun to dress up celebrities. We watch celebrities from afar thanks to entertainment television and fashion magazines, and for the most part, the fashion of the stars is super.

When you live your life in the spotlight, you must learn to look the part even when you’re just taking your dog for a walk or heading to the local grocery store for your daily detox energy drink, or whatever. I’m sure having fashion experts around on all those movies and television sets rubs off on celebrities as well. Regardless, they look great and are a lot of fun to dress up.

Celebrity dress up games are essentially the same as regular dress up games, but with a major exception. In a regular dress up game you might be working with a cute red haired base, but in the celebrity dress up game, you’re bedecking Nicole Kidman or Cameron Diaz for a major red carpet event.

Most celebrity dress up games aren’t simply throwing gowns onto celebrity bodies. The outfits are ones actually worn by the stars at major events or in movies. The dress up games are accompanied by contests and challenges to figure out which doll is what celebrity based on the dress alone. They can be a mite challenging, but maybe not for an expert like you!

Beating Summer Boredom with Dress Up Games

Summer is moving along, and now that the fireworks and festivities are over, you might be wondering what to do with yourself for the rest of your time off. If you’re already bored, why not try a new twist on an old game?

Dress up games on the computer are a great way to entertain yourself and any of your friends or sisters who show up bored to tears, too. You used to dress up dolls, but now you can dress up online dolls instead in the current fashions. You might even stumble across a celebrity dress up game and be able to give the Jonas Brothers or another favorite a few new outfits.

Dress up games can be much more than simply throwing clothes on a doll base. There are hundreds of items to choose from, and when you’re done, you don’t have to just undress the doll and start over – although you can. Rather than just nixing your design, you can use your doll as your computer background, the avatar or picture on a MySpace or Facebook profile, or even just print out a copy to use on your wall.

Every time you feel the doldrums coming to get you, don’t just sink farther into the couch cushions. Drag yourself to the computer and spend some time getting creative and having fun, although you can still complain of boredom to your parents in hopes of earning a season pass somewhere fun.

Dress Up Games: One Day Dare

Looking for a way to keep your sanity through another round of summer school? Why not play a bit of truth or dare, only without the truth or the slumber party. This version of a daring game can only be done if both people are ready and willing to give their fashion sense a run for its money and feel a surge in their creativity. The one day dare is tough; there is no doubt about it.

The One Day Dare
In this dress up game, you and a partner agree to play together for the day or you can play as a group if everyone picks a name. You can only dare one person at a time. Then you’ll need to head to a local thrift store or your own closet. If you can sneak into your mom or dad’s closet, that will make the game great fun, too.

Your goal is to find a single item of clothing or an accessory that is so horrible it looks like something that might be oddly fashionable. For example, a vest your mother wore twenty years ago might seem like something almost stylish again – but it’s so obviously not.

Bring that item to your friend the night before the dare. She has the rest of the evening to use that item in an outfit for the next day, and then she must wear it – without speaking of the dare, the entire day. She must do her best to play it off as though she choose that item as part of her normal wardrobe. You might be laughing at her wearing a horrible vest, but you’ll be too busy trying to look cool in her mom’s old elastic waist pants to even try.

Fashion Victim Dress Up Game

Have you ever seen a friend sport an outfit thrown together at a thrift store? If your friend really knows what she’s doing, the outfit looks terrific – the clothes fit and have that funky vintage feel. But of course, things don’t always work out just right and sometimes there is a fashion victim in the mix – that’s the whole point of the Fashion Victim Dress Up Game. Are you in fashion? Or a fashion victim?

Grab a friend for moral support and head over to a local thrift store. You can really do this at any secondhand clothing shop, but it’s unlikely you’ll find real treasures at a store where the clothing is screened before being sold for more than nickels and dimes. You’re looking for the items that haven’t been stylish for decades – and you’re going to make them hip again.

Get into the shop and start digging. Try things on if you dare or take them home to try on later. You might wash any clothing you decide to try on before pulling them on, simply because they might not have been washed well before being donated. Look for funky combinations of jeans or pants, jackets, tops, sweaters, and even unusual shoes.

If you find a goldmine of a thrift clothing store, you can also find some truly unusual accessories. It’s easy to spend hours poking around and pulling together potential outfits. When you’re done, get the clothes to go and you’ll have an entirely new style – likely for less than $20.
